How to Measure Your Bra Size & How to Know If Your Bra Fits Right

Perfect fitting lingerie has always been at the top of our agenda at CHiLLi. We want your lingerie fit to add to the love and confidence you have for your body. Over 80% of womxn wear the wrong bra size, but why is the right size so important?

The wrong fitting bra can lead to many different issues. Not only will it affect the appearance of the bra, but you may also suffer from increased health issues as a result. The main health issues include: poor posture, back pain & problems breathing.

The first question that is regularly asked is: “How do I know if my bra fits right?”. There are a few clear signs that your bra is not the right size for you. The main focus areas are the under-band, cups and straps (and if using a wired bra, then the wires).

What can change your bra size?

It is advised to measure yourself at least twice a year to keep the necessary support. There are many factors that can alter your bra size such as: hormones, age, weight, menstrual cycle. Bra size can vary by brand, so it’s always important to review their size guides before making your purchase.

Check your under-band fits

The under-band should sit in a straight line across your back. If it rises up then the size isn’t right and you won’t be getting the level of support that you need. This is one of the most important focus areas because your band will provide around 80% of the support from the bra. If it fits right, you should be able to fit two fingers between the band and your skin without too much resistance. If this is a struggle, go up a size, if there is still a gap then go down a size.

Check your bra cups fit

Your bra cups should mould to you without any wrinkles or sagging. They should also be able to hold your breasts without any overspill.

Check your bra straps

Bra straps should sit on your shoulder without falling or pinching into your skin. There is a common misconception that the tighter the strap is, the more support you get. While the strap needs to be tight enough to hold the cups, if it is too tight, you will not get the support you are looking for.
